At the LB Charitable Foundation, we’ve always believed in the power of partnerships to drive change, especially when it comes to improving the lives of children battling cancer. On May 6, 2025, we were honored to announce a significant collaboration with Wipe Out Kids Cancer and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSMC), aimed at tackling one of the most challenging pediatric cancers: Ewing Sarcoma, affecting 200 children annually in the US, with notably a low 3 year event free survival rate of 38%.

Thanks to the generous support of our community, LB Charitable Foundation has committed a grant that will help support UTSMC’s cutting-edge project: Application of Machine Learning to Digital Histology in Pediatric Ewing Sarcoma. This collaboration marks a major milestone in our ongoing efforts to fund transformative medical research that can change the trajectory of childhood cancer care.
A Humbling Experience at Dr. Andrew Koh’s Laboratory (Chief ,Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology)

On May 6, 2025, we had the incredible opportunity to visit Dr. Andrew Koh’s Laboratory at UTSMC, and met most of the Scientists, where the pioneering research on pediatric cancers, including Ewing Sarcoma, is taking place. It was truly a humbling experience to witness firsthand the dedication and precision with which Dr. Koh and his team are working to understand and combat this devastating disease.
The lab’s work is inspiring in its commitment to improving diagnosis and treatment for young patients, and we were deeply moved by the passion and determination of the researchers. The advanced technologies and techniques being developed in the lab, including the use of machine learning and digital histology, are leading the way in how pediatric cancers like Ewing Sarcoma will be diagnosed, monitored, and treated in the future.
Revolutionizing Cancer Research with Machine Learning and Digital Histology

Ewing Sarcoma is a rare but aggressive form of cancer that primarily affects children and adolescents. While treatments have made strides, the disease remains difficult to diagnose and treat effectively. This is where machine learning and digital histology come in. Under the leadership of Dr. Patrick Leavey, MD, and Dr. Xiao, MD, the team at UTSMC is leveraging these advanced technologies to improve how doctors diagnose and track the progression of Ewing Sarcoma at the microscopic level.
Machine learning can analyze vast amounts of digital histological data much more efficiently than traditional methods. This opens up the possibility for earlier diagnosis, more accurate prognoses, and ultimately more effective treatments. By funding this research, we’re not just supporting innovation; we’re helping to pave the way for life-saving breakthroughs that can be used for pediatric cancers beyond Ewing Sarcoma as well.
The Power of Philanthropy in Advancing Science
The work being done at UTSMC is truly groundbreaking, but it wouldn’t be possible without the support of charitable organizations. At LB Charitable Foundation, we understand that research funding is critical to moving science forward—especially when it comes to pediatric cancer, a field that often faces funding gaps. We are incredibly proud to be part of this journey, where our contributions can make a real and lasting impact on the lives of young patients.
We believe in a future where Ewing Sarcoma and other childhood cancers are no longer a death sentence, and where new technologies are the key to earlier detection and more personalized treatments. Our partnership with Wipe Out Kids Cancer and UTSMC represents an exciting step forward in this vision.
Looking Toward the Future
While this grant represents a significant step forward, it’s just the beginning. Together with our partners, we’re committed to supporting research that not only changes the lives of children diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma but also provides hope to families everywhere who are facing the unimaginable.
The potential for this project to lead to new breakthroughs in pediatric cancer care is limitless, and we’re excited to be on this journey with such dedicated and visionary scientists. We encourage you to join us in supporting this critical work—whether through donations, spreading awareness, or simply staying engaged with the incredible progress being made.
Together, we can wipe out kids’ cancer and create a brighter, healthier future for all.
To God be all the glory!!!
